Merryfield

Now that you’ve made the decision to become a professional dog groomer, the first step is simple: go to grooming school! Like any college or university, grooming schools offer courses that help you learn about the industry and sharpen your skills. There are many grooming schools out there, and while all of them are unique, there are several things that Merryfield Academy makes sure to offer to all students.

Hands-on Learning and Course Work

Dog grooming is a hands-on business that requires hands-on learning. Any groomer in training will need lots of practice before entering the field. In our grooming school, you’ll get first-hand experience working with and grooming animals. Of course, you will likely have to take some pre-training beforehand in order to learn proper grooming techniques. Studying theory for grooming is just as important as the grooming itself. Learning the tips and tricks in depth will prepare you for a successful career in grooming. At Merryfield, we make sure that our students are well trained by highly experienced professionals so that they are prepared for their new career!

Comprehensive Learning

One of the most important aspects of any level of higher education is comprehensive learning. Any great grooming school will offer courses and a curriculum that is both challenging and all-inclusive. After all, you’re aspiring to work with animals every day for a living. You’ll need to learn more than just grooming. The small details, from the types of working conditions you’ll be into the types of pets you’ll be working with, are just as important to study as the motions of grooming. In our school, students are not only trained how to handle grooming techniques, but also the ins and outs of business to business relationships, customer service etiquette, and more!

Constructive Criticism

Constructive criticism is something that is present in many types of schooling. This is perhaps the hardest part of grooming school, only because not everyone can take criticism without taking it personally. Whether it’s positive or negative, the purpose of it is to help you learn and further develop your skillset. While you are studying the craft of animal grooming, you can’t expect to get everything perfect on your first try at trimming. When you make a mistake, this isn’t a sign of failure. It only shows the obvious; you’re still learning. Keep in mind that with help from your professors, tutors, and peers, you’ll be able to learn what works, what doesn’t, what could use improvement, and what parts of grooming you excel at. Then, when you complete your schooling and set off to build your career, you’ll be better equipped to do so.

Readily Available Resources for Students

Unlike a lot of other types of career-specific schools and independent courses, our grooming school will provide you with all the resources necessary for you to learn. Classrooms that grooming demonstrations are held in will have tools, knowledgeable instructors, and even groom-ready pets available for student use. After all, you can’t be expected to bring your own buzz saw to a woodshop class, right?
